David Brooks Visits IWU
David Brooks, a New York Times opinion columnist, and PBS NewsHour commentator, made a trip to IWU’s campus to discuss his book, How to Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen. IWU faculty used the book as a focus for professional growth during the spring semester, and the author visit served as a culminating discussion.
IWU President Jon S. Kulaga and Vice President for Academic Affairs Aly Williams hosted the conversation on April 4th between Brooks and IWU Professor of Psychology Erin Devers. Devers is finalizing a comparable title for InterVarsity Press, so the conversation was relevant and timely.
When reflecting on the discussion, Kulaga offered: “The visit from David Brooks and Anne Snyder was an exciting opportunity to join in conversation with the author and scholar of a topic we discussed over the spring as a unit. Their presence on our campus was an honor.”
Legal Process Comes to Life through Appeals on Wheels
Indiana Wesleyan University hosted the Court of Appeals of Indiana Appeals on Wheels program on Thursday, Jan. 18th. The event held in the PPAC was part of the Indiana Court of Appeals’ award-winning civics education program, bringing the legal process to life by conducting real, live oral arguments at various locations throughout Indiana.
This initiative aims to enhance public understanding of the crucial role the judiciary branch plays in the state’s government. It also provides a unique opportunity for citizens to engage with Court of Appeals judges in informal and informative settings.
This event offered attendees the chance to witness live oral arguments in the case of Billy Weathers v. State of Indiana. The program included an audience question-and-answer session, providing an opportunity for direct interaction with the participating attorneys and judges.
IWU Chorale Records Soundtracks for Museum of the Bible
At the Society of World Changers convocation, audience member and guest to campus, Dylan Thomas was impressed. Thomas is CEO & Founder of CREATR and Songwriter & Music Director for Hillsong United and was working in collaboration with Museum of the Bible to create the music for a new exhibit. He asked if the chorale would be willing to record for the April exhibit launch.

Wesley Seminary Welcomes Director of Development
Connie Erpelding’s excitement for equipping ministry leaders and her gift of connecting with people are converging in her new role as Director of Development for Wesley Seminary. Most recently, she worked with donors at Iowa’s Prairie Lakes Church and promoted education through a partnership with Wesley Seminary and the IWU Bridge Initiative.
Erpelding understands the difference a Wesley Seminary degree makes as she witnessed the transformative work of graduates both in Iowa and through her position as Chair of the Board for Wesley Seminary beginning in 2018. She led her last board meeting in April and is now transitioning to a staff role and a permanent presence at Wesley Seminary. Both Connie and her husband, Ken, feel God is moving them to Marion and Connie is excited to step into a role that promotes ministry leaders working for the Kingdom and connects donors to support this life-changing work.
