LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

DR. JON KULAGA, PH.D.

Amid societal upheaval and shifting cultural values, a few Christian colleges have learned not only to survive but to thrive. These institutions demonstrate resilience by staying true to their Christ-centered foundations while adapting to the needs of students. Indiana Wesleyan University is one such institution. In today’s higher education environment, IWU thrives by holding fast to its mission and values, fostering a Christ-centered community, and nurturing the intellectual and spiritual growth of its students.

Adherence to Timeless Values

IWU continues to thrive because of its unwavering commitment to the Word of God and the work of Christ. In a culture where many speak of “their truth,” we see the Word of God as our one source of truth. Anchored to this foundation, our students and faculty find purpose and direction that transcend cultural trends. Our unapologetic commitment to Christ-centered character formation offers students the moral compass they need in times of ethical and moral fragmentation.

Creating Strong Communities

Another key to IWU’s success is cultivating supportive communities. As technology use increases, so does a sense of isolation. IWU students find belonging and purpose in classrooms, worship gatherings, small groups, and online spaces that provide essential support. Surrounded by peers and mentors who share their aspirations and Christian faith, students form lifelong friendships and networks that guide them well beyond graduation.

Intellectual and Spiritual Growth

A holistic education that addresses both intellectual and spiritual needs is the third priority contributing to our success. In a world that often values achievement over formation, IWU balances academic excellence with Christ-centered spiritual development. Aristotle said, “Educating the mind and not the heart is no education at all.” The integration of faith (heart) with learning (mind) is central to the mission of Indiana Wesleyan University. This approach helps students see the world through an unapologetically Christ-centered lens—one that is thoughtful (head) and compassionate (heart).

Adaptability in the Face of Change

As we prepare to launch, pending approval from our accrediting body, new degrees in artificial intelligence and a statewide vocational school for automotive technicians, IWU continues to demonstrate adaptability.
