WESLEY SEMINARY

FIFTEEN YEARS OF FAITH & FORWARD MOMENTUM

WESLEY SEMINARY PREPARES CHRISTIAN LEADERS TO ENGAGE IN MISSIONAL MINISTRY LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY. — WESLEY SEMINARY'S MISSION

As Wesley Seminary celebrates fifteen years of empowering Christian leaders, we are reminded of its profound calling. From the beginning, Wesley Seminary has embodied its mission with intentionality, growth, and an unwavering commitment to serving the church.

Over the past decade and a half, we have steadfastly developed leaders equipped to transform communities, inspire ministries, and impact the world for Christ. As an embedded institution at Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU), we have cultivated a unique environment where academic rigor and spiritual formation come together, shaping graduates who lead with competence and compassion. With IWU's mission— "Indiana Wesleyan University is a Christ-centered academic community committed to changing the world by developing students in character, scholarship, and leadership" — Wesley Seminary stands as a beacon for missional ministry, grounded in Christ-centered leadership and Kingdom-oriented education.

FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP ACROSS CHANGING LANDSCAPES

Stewarding Wesley Seminary's mission has required constancy and adaptability for the past fifteen years. Since our founding, the cultural, social, and educational landscapes have changed significantly. In a world where the role of faith and ministry is increasingly challenged, Wesley Seminary has remained committed to facing these changes head-on while remaining anchored in the Scriptures, our uncompromised theological stance, which encompasses our calling.

“WE DON'T CELEBRATE MERELY THE PASSING OF YEARS BUT GOD'S UNWAVERING FAITHFULNESS THAT SUSTAINS OUR PRESENT AND FUTURE.”
REV. DR. YAMIL ACEVEDO Executive Vice President, Wesley Seminary

IWU's emphasis on character and leadership informs our academic goals and community, creating a seamless synergy between the Seminary and the university. By working together, IWU and Wesley Seminary provide students with a holistic educational experience that shapes their intellect, hones their skills, and inspires their hearts. This mission alignment reflects our commitment to scholar and ministry cross-pollination, allowing students and faculty to benefit from the resources, wisdom, and mentorship that both the Seminary and IWU offer.

A FORWARD-THINKING VISION FOR MINISTRY

Today, Wesley Seminary continues to refine the enactment of its mission in ways that resonate with the demands, pressing needs, and realities of modern ministry. The 21st century presents unique challenges and unprecedented opportunities for the church. Wesley Seminary is committed to preparing leaders ready to respond with innovation, creativity, and a deep love for God and their neighbor. The Seminary’s mission to "engage in missional ministry locally and globally" calls for leaders who can meet today’s issues with relevance and resilience.

Our 21st Century Church strategy embodies this commitment, offering students and alums practical resources to address contemporary challenges. A notable component of this initiative is Lantern, an online ecosystem designed to convene, educate, and empower church leaders worldwide. As a living and breathing community, Lantern provides a wide array of curated resources, including video series, articles, and theological insights, tailored to the demands of today’s ministry landscape. Developed through a scholar-practitioner network, Lantern fosters a space for continual learning and collaboration, empowering leaders to engage deeply with their callings in ways that resonate with the complexities of modern ministry.

Another crucial element within the 21st Century Church strategy is the development of innovative ministry impact solutions. At its core, this program takes an interdisciplinary, collaborative learning approach to support churches, denominations, movements, and ministries. By helping them understand and overcome obstacles, this initiative seeks to unlock each organization’s God-given creativity, enabling them to advance the Kingdom of God. This approach brings together leaders from diverse backgrounds to tackle challenges, collectively drawing from academic and theological depth, shared practical ministry wisdom, and collaborative problem-solving to drive meaningful change. Wesley Seminary equips church leaders to navigate issues with agility and adaptability through this initiative, fostering a vibrant and resilient ministry landscape.

CELEBRATING FAITHFULNESS, LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

As we celebrate fifteen years of Wesley Seminary, we acknowledge God's faithfulness and the dedication of those who have brought this mission to life. Faculty, staff, alums, and partners have poured their hearts into cultivating a Seminary that remains as alive with purpose today as it was in its earliest days. We honor the past with gratitude, embrace the present with humility, and look to the future with hope.

Rev. Dr. Yamil Acevedo, Executive Vice President, captures this spirit: "We don't celebrate merely the passing of years but God's unwavering faithfulness that sustains our present and future. Wesley Seminary's story is a testament to His provision and guidance. As we grow, we pray to continue to steward this mission with the same love, humility, and intentionality that has brought us this far and with an awe-inspiring excitement for what God has in store for us—for his church."

Wesley Seminary is poised to impact generations of Christian leaders, equipping them to engage in missional ministry with wisdom, innovation, and a heart for service. Together, we trust in God's promise to lead us as we carry this mission into the next chapter.

As we honor our first fifteen years, we do so with a profound sense of responsibility and anticipation. Guided by God's faithfulness and the support of IWU, Wesley Seminary looks forward to a future rooted in our Wesleyan heritage and responsive to the world's needs. We step into the coming years believing our best work is yet to come—for the glory of the triune God alone.
